LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP GAINS NATIONAL AWARD
Improving the Donington Environment for All Ltd (IDEA Ltd) has been successful in gaining the prestigious Investors In People Award and their achievement was recognised at a recent event hosted by Lincoln City Football Club.
IDEA Ltd had to demonstrate its commitment to investing in skills for the future and proving to specialist assessors that they were well organised and had Directors and volunteers who had the skills and knowledge needed for the community based organisation to grow and achieve its goals .
Stephen Wright, Chairman of IDEA, said
I know from my own companies which have IIP that it is a rigorous standard set and IDEA can be proud of what has been achieved.
It tells the world that here in Donington we have a community group which is committed to the residents of Donington, asks the residents what they wish to see improved and then tries to achieve their wishes through co-operative working with the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Donington has many clubs and organisations which do a tremendous job. IDEA Ltd, in recent times, has focused on recreation with the continuing construction of Flinders Park at a cost of £350,000, supporting the village youth group Flinders Founders in the construction of a £100,000 Teen Park, and most recently have organised a very successful Children's Holiday Club in co-operation with The Youth Club and support from the Parish Council and Thomas Cowley Schools Foundation.
Karen Major, one of the twelve IDEA Directors, explains
€IDEA was unique in going through the Investors in People assessment programme as we are a purely voluntary organisation. To come through the process successfully has given us a tremendous boost.
IDEA Ltd is involved with a wide range of activities primarily in Donington but we have developed partnerships farther afield in our efforts to improve our local community. From the Flinders Park Horticultural Society to the Donington Oral History Society we can provide many opportunities for people who wish to join in and if necessary provide training leading to qualifications. IDEA also supports the Donington in Bloom group as well as organise Festivals and Celebrations throughout the year.€¯
IDEA welcomes new members at any time and we strive to include a representative from each local community group. Our lively monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. Contact any of our committee members for more information to join in and to get your voice heard.
Working together makes our community stronger!
